It’s not random. Whenever we change an English string translators need to provide a new translation on Crowdin. You see deleted translations in Git when that doesn’t happen before our weekly translation update.
In that particular case I made a judgement call to update the English translation because the existing one was confusing translators and lead to wrong translations. See Number of answers in tooltip on French Discourse incorrect for the whole story.
