Unclear replies

Is there any way to tell if a post is replying to OP or to the post above? It seems really ambiguous, also, I would only get notifications if the post below is responding to mine and not OP, right? (Using “Tracking” and I’m not OP)

If one is using

  1. Reply-button of a post then yes. You get notification (like I did now) and it is shown as a reply in that post too (well, in most of cases; no if that reply is right after original but that behaving varies per forum)
  2. Reply-button of topic — no. Because it is reply to topic, not necessary to OP.

So the latter one can be tricky if no one quotes or connection isn’t obvious.
