Where to find the custom message sent when rejecting a post?

I believe that this is the functionality we used to reject a post and send a custom message.

The problem is we can’t find where that rejection message is. The moderator can’t find it in their own sent messages or in the moderator inbox. Where can it be found?

I have also looked in the logs as well as the sent emails with no luck.

If important, it was queued for review because it was a TL0 user.

The revise post messages are actually sent by the system user so if you have a look in their inbox you should see it. :crossed_fingers:

There is a feature request to include moderators in the PM too, which would be very useful if anyone replies to one:

ETA: (Unless you’ve set a user as the site contact username, in which case the revise post PM would also be sent by that user instead of @system)

Though just to double-check as it’s a little ambiguous - You linked to this post about the Revise Post feature, but refer to the Rejection message. Which button did they press?

I pressed the Reject Post. (I’m the moderator.) But my custom message to the user doesn’t show up in the sent folder in my user inbox.

I checked the system user mailbox and didn’t see it under latest or sent.

site contact username is blank.

Hello and welcome @BethL

If you plucked for Reject over Revise, then I don’t believe a message is sent to the user?

Do you know at what point/where you added the custom message?

Hi, after I selected Reject, a comment window popped up. In other words, when I hit Reject it didnt reject immediately but gave me an option for a comment to the user (which I was glad to see because I wanted to let them know why I rejected it). Actually I dont recall seeing a Revise option.

Ah, this sounds more like User Approval rather than post approval. Do you have must approve users on your site? Red Herring

Though let me have a check of a couple of things to make sure I’m not the one getting muddled.

TL0 users have their posts automatically queued. This is why it was queued.

Also, they replied later to the rejection notice saying there was nothing wrong with their post. So I know they got something but was it just a rejection notice or a notice with my comment to them?

I’ve tried to set up a couple of Approval flows on my test site to have a look but each time I choose Reject Post it actions it immediately and doesn’t offer me the option to add a custom message.

Do you know which exact settings you have configured for this so I can give it a proper test?

Also, a screenshot of the handled reviewable in the queue might be useful too. (With any sensitive info redacted)

And this is the rest of the scrolled text:

I’m not sure which settings are relevant. I searched for review and found this under “Spam”:

In total there were 30 settings that matched review and none of the edited settings have anything to do with the post review process.

I apologize for not knowing more about this process.

That’s okay. From the screenshot of the reviewable above it looks like you’ve adjusted Approve unless allowed groups so it sends posts from TL0 users to the queue for approval.

However… when I try the same, rejecting the test post does not offer me a custom message option.

I was fairly confident that reject didn’t send anything (which was why Revise was introduced), but the custom message has had to have been typed in somewhere. Do you have any customisations that could add this feature?

Hopefully someone can point out something obvious I’m missing.

Could you sign up a new test user and get one of their posts sent to the queue to be rejected to see what kind of notifications and/or PMs they get and where from?

(A screenshot of the custom message box might also trigger something in my snail brain )

Ok, I set up a test user and the only action I could cause to give me a custom message to the user was “Revise”. I’m waiting to hear from @BethL to see if that matches what they remember.

I did go ahead and try “Revise”. That let me send a custom message to the test user. The test user recieved a PM from the system user, but when I go into the system user’s inbox/sent mail there is nothing at all. I can share screen shots of that if it is helpful.

One thing to note, we have disabled replying to system messages (and in my test, the test user has no option to reply). But that shouldn’t keep the message out of the system inbox, should it?

And under /u/system/preferences/users

Aah, it looks like the Revise Post PM is originally in the Archive tab of the @system user inbox, and only moves to Latest and Sent when a user replies to it.

Oh, snap.

I never, ever, archive messages so I never think to look there. There is so much there. Most of which is unnecessary to ever look at. But now I know.

Thank you so much!!
