The discussion revolves around setting a first-login home page that prompts users to choose their main interests, which would then prioritize specific tags or categories. Renato_Mendes suggests this could be achieved through groups, but is unsure how to set it up.
Pfaffman points out that there’s a built-in way to track categories and tags on the user preferences page, and also suggests making certain categories available only to members of specific groups. However, a custom form would require a custom theme component.
Ncaming215 agrees with the idea of allowing users to curate their community experience, suggesting that it’s essential for growing communities to avoid overwhelming users with disparate features and settings.
I’ve been wondering whether there’s a way to set a first-login home page to force a user to choose main interests, which would then show the user only some tags or categories (or make them prioritary), like Pinterest and Flipboard do. It could work for different language users too.
I believe this is possible through groups, but don’t know how to set it up.
Also, it’s different from setting a specific page as homepage for each group. Everyone would still have Latest as their homepage, for example.
This is in line with what I have been suggesting here:
Let users curate their community experience. Every community grows. Otherwise everything from the menu to the obfuscated “tracking settings” are weird, disparate experiences.
