Email thread notifications cutting off attachments

Hi all,

I recently had a member upset that his new post (initiated via email) cut off his attachment and email signature. Attaching a screenshot below.

The overwhelming majority of our members only utilize our listserv by viewing and replying via the email notifications.

I’m guessing that this is a setting that is limiting the email notification characters or words. Where can I change this to remove any minimum character restrictions and have the attachments appear in the email notifications that go out?

Thanks!
Bobbi

It’s a little hard to tell what’s going on here without seeing your settings. I don’t think it has anything to do with the post length.

We deliberately strip email signatures because they are annoying and waste space. If you don’t want that to happen you can change this setting.

Regarding attachments, do you know that they were trying to attach allowed file types?

And do you know how big the attachment was?

Thanks so much for the quick response!

I completely agree with stripping the signatures but my group (older generation non-profit association of lawyers) is really upset that our new listserv with Discourse has eliminated the old function of having the poster’s personal email address show up in the “reply: to” field in the email notifications.

So now when they are receiving notifications of thread responses, they don’t have the functionality of replying to the individual privately.

… so now it’s imperative that their email signatures show up so they have access to the poster’s private email.

I’m assuming that we will never be able to change that functionality, correct?

I’ll check out that guide you sent right now and follow up if needed. Thank you!

This is what his post looks like on the backend.

He’s upset that his post isn’t showing in everyone’s email inbox.

Sorry for the multiple replies. I fixed the attachment (showed up now in my test email!)

My signature is still not showing up.

Is there another setting I’m missing? Is this correct?

It is unlikely that we will do any work on the listserv functionality because it’s not a very commonly used approach.

If you click the little envelope icon next to the 3d at the top right and check the text and HTML tabs, can you see his signature?

Totally understand on that functionality. I don’t think it’s a priority either.

For the signature, It IS showing on the text but NOT showing on the HTML.

Hi @guildedgrey

If disabling “trim incoming emails” doesn’t work, then I would suggest disabling “incoming email prefer html” as well. This will prefer using the text version of the incoming emails and minimize any attempts at extracting the “actual” content of the emails, thus leaving signatures in.
