Akismet plugin is hard coded to check every 10 minutes. We need that check to be more often. Is there a reason it’s at 10/there isn’t UI to change the interval or was this just decided as the best interval for most users?

It is not at 10 minutes, there is an accelerated check for new user posts. Perhaps @eviltrout can elaborate?
Yes here is how it works:

If a user is TL0 their post is enqueued to be checked as quick as it can be pulled off the work queue. This probably happens within a few seconds unless your server is very busy with some other work.

Otherwise the posts are checked in a job that is scheduled every 10 mins.
I’d be open to adding a setting to check more often (or less often) than 10 minutes if I heard a good use case. Are you interested in checking higher trust levels more quickly than that?

Hmm, I don’t think so, I’m pretty sure that the ones that end up getting through are trust level 0. Let me check with my guys, see what we turn up with now that we know how it actually works.
