My forum has an active “trading post” category. Users have asked to be able to review their trading interactions, so I created a pinned topic, as it is a canonical way to achieve this.
I’ve pinned the topic.
From what I remember, pinned topics are automatically unpinned when read, by default (members of my forum won’t tweak this setting from their profile), which is unwanted. I want this topic always available in this category.
I don’t want this (on only this one) topic unpinned when read. This is the only case where it makes sense in my forum.
For ease of use, the category can be opened from the #offer and #search tags in the sidebar.
But, of course, in this case, the topic doesn’t appear on those topic lists filtered by tag.
I could add both tags to my topic, but it just doesn’t fit (and my tags are limited to 1 only, even admins can’t bypass this).
Do you have suggestions on how to properly set up a user reviews topic in this context?
You can change that default with the Default topics automatic unpin site setting, but that changes it for all pinned topics, so it’s not really what you are asking for.
Are those the only tags you use on your forum? Would a tag banner which includes the link help? Many theme component and plugin topic tags on meta offer a link to the topic in the banner, and I often find them helpful.
Perhaps you could use a self-written theme component to display the topic in certain routes in the topic list at the top without pinning it, similar to how Category Previews displays a category in the same style as the other categories in the category list. You add your topic to a plugin outlet so that it looks like a pinned topic.
