Users are discussing the idea of a progress bar to encourage community members to complete their profiles. ArcticF0xx initially suggested this feature, comparing it to LinkedIn’s profile completion percentage. merefield agrees it’s a great idea and recommends occasional “blogging” of site features to drive adoption.
Several users, including anon82467725 and Zup, support the idea, proposing incentives such as badges for reaching certain profile completion percentages. Cwill suggests setting up custom tasks for users to complete during sign-up.
However, codinghorror notes that a badge for filling out one’s profile already exists, and a reminder to add an avatar is displayed after starting to post replies, providing some incentive for users to complete their profiles.
Does anyone know if there’s an add-on or theme component that shows a progress bar for filling out / completing your community profile? For example, LinkedIn let’s you know when you’ve completed x% of your profile.
I’m curious to hear what others have done to incentivize their community members to fill out their profiles.
That’s a really nice idea for a Feature of Core or a plugin.
Occasional “blogging” of site features in a “site stuff” category can sometimes help drive adoption of these facilities. Some users are better than others.
I definitely agree that such a feature should be a part of vanilla Discourse. Users should be incentivized to fill out their entire profile. Maybe they could be awarded a badges after reaching certain percentages or just one badge when they reach 100%? At the moment, there aren’t enough incentives for users to fill out their profiles.
Well there is already a badge for filling out your profile, plus we do a gentle just-in-time reminder to add an avatar after you’ve started posting replies, so entering profile info is already incentivized to some degree.
