In a discussion titled ‘Updates no longer in the Admin UI?’, DavidO reported that the click-to-update feature via the Admin UI had disappeared from his Discourse instance, which he previously found very convenient. Canapin confirmed the feature still exists on their instance and suggested checking /admin/update/. DavidO found it missing from both the sidebar and menu, and received a ‘Not Found’ page at /admin/update. pmusaraj asked if the docker_manager plugin was still in app.yml, which DavidO confirmed it was, though he suspected formatting issues. After re-entering the plugin configuration from a meta guide and rebuilding, the update button reappeared DavidO. However, DavidO noticed a warning about an outdated Docker version, even though /admin/update showed docker_manager as ‘Up to date’. itsbhanusharma clarified that Docker and docker_manager are separate, and advised running apt update && apt full-upgrade on the host system for server-level updates. DavidO thanked them, noting this was new knowledge for him. The issue was resolved by correcting plugin configuration syntax and understanding the distinction between Discourse plugin updates and host system Docker updates.
From what I’ve read, I guess this feature was removed? Now there’s no click-to-update option through the Admin UI?
Not sure how far behind I am, as to how recent that is, or if it can somehow be re-enabled. It was one of my favorite things about Discourse from an admin point of view. The ability to update it at anytime from anywhere with just the phone app, outside of a few times a year when I waited too long and had to go in and rebuild the app from the command line, was very convenient. The rebuild to fix almost any issue, is my other favorite thing about the platform, from an admin point of view.
I’m wondering if I’m having a spacing issue or something with some lines of the commands. Is that a thing, where the number of spaces affects it reading it correctly?
