Automatically add group flair to members' avatars

Group avatar flair displays to the bottom-right of a user’s avatar, providing a stylish way to highlight a user’s group membership. When creating or configuring a group, an admin can choose an image or Font Awesome icon to use as group flair. Below are the currently supported contexts, using our :discourse: logo as an example:

Group flair can be configured for both automatic user groups (e.g. admins, moderators, trust levels) and custom user groups. You’ll likely want to review all of your group setting during configuration, but the most relevant settings for avatar flair are those covered below.

Select the relevant group from your groups list and go to Manage > Profile. You’ll find the following settings:

Under Avatar Flair Image are two options:

The Avatar Flair Background Color setting allows you to include a circular colored background. This works particularly well when using a Font Awesome icon, or an image with a transparent background.

If you belong to multiple groups with avatar flairs configured, you can select the one to show from your User’s Preference page. In the Account section.

When working with a custom user group, to make the group’s flair display automatically for all members, the group must become a user’s primary group. While viewing a group, go to Manage > Membership and find the Effects section.

Check the “Automatically set as primary group” checkbox and save the changes to set the group as the primary group of all its current and future members. Note that users can change this from their Preferences page.

:warning: If a user becomes a member of two groups that have the “Automatically set as primary group” setting enabled, the group flair that displays will be the one associated with the group most recently joined. It’s also worth noting that primary groups can be manually overridden by an admin on a user’s admin page, or by the user when the user selected primary groups site setting is enabled.

Thank you for your report. That issue is already fixed. I also updated the OP to include the new user selectable flairs feature.
